Liz lost her phone - she had no idea where she put it down last.
I offered to ring it for her, so it would reveal itself.
She searched some more, then decided to take me up on my offer.
I called and let it ring till the answerphone cut in.
Then she realised: It was on silent mode for when she is in school.
A further search ensued...
I've found it now. It was in my dressing gown pocket. Obvious really, I'd taken it upstairs when I went to have a bath.

I totally empathise with you, Liz. It happens to me every morning as I leave for work. I remember where it is - and yes - in my dressing gown pocket... back up on the third floor :-(

Yep, I often allow mine to slide down the cushions on the sofa when it is on silent so we can't find it by the 'I'll ring it and see where it is trick'. Point for discussion: Is having a mobile phone on silent a paradox? Answers on a postcard please.

Yes, I'm certain it is. What is the point in having a telephone that you cannot hear ring? It is definintely a paradox, but other folks' opinions would be appreciated. (If Andy doesn't mind)

Not good to have it ring when in a classroom with children, hence it being on silent. I just forget to make it noisy again. I always have it on silent when on the train or bus or out for a meal, anywhere public like that. It seems good manners.

Cant you get a ring tone that either whispers ring ring, or that says "Miss, can I go to the toilet"

I have mine on silent at work cos we're not allowed to use them. Also, like Liz, in company etc cos it is bad manners really to be nattering on the mobile in someone's company. They're very handy things. Kids'll be after one soon but they've had that until they are teenagers (at least).

So, Angela, you DO see a point in having a telephone that you cannot hear ring! Make the kids wait too ... good on ya!

Yes, I need the point in having a phone that doesn't ring for work purposes. Unfortunately that foible made me miss the fact that my son was ill and the school wanted me to come seek him. Got the message at 2:30 which is when I would leave work to pick them both up anyway. (He's ok! He often gets 'illnesses' prior to break up for holidays)

Last word from me on this one: I've lost my phone. Remember having it last thing Tuesday night to ring David before I went to bed. It's not in the bedroom now. Where have I put it!?!?!? (PS - it's on silent cos I switched it before I went to sleep!)
