Even as I gaze wistfully at the video below from the recent trip to Tiree I am excited inside because we are already booked to go back from July 22nd.
TL and myself will be experiencing it together this time, and I could hardly be more pleased about that. We got the last room in Glebe house, much to our delight, and just squeaked in with the ferry sailings.
On the way up it is quite hard to find a guest house which will take visitors for just one night. Jason and myself were fortunate in finding the Braeside B&B in Kilmore, just south of Oban. It's a lovely little guest house and very comfortable. Joy of joys, unlike so many others during high season, they will take single night bookings.
Of course, all of that would mean nothing if they didn't have a room available. As it goes , we got the only night in July still available at the Braeside. Hard to believe that we picked the only day in the month when he wasn't absolutely full to capacity.
Now, we're not supposed to trust fate, or so I hear, but sometimes things just work out so well that they simply feel right - and so it is with this. I look forward to peaceful days and comfortable nights on this island that has made such an impact on me.
Forget fate - I personally think that Boss is aware that both Liz and myself really need a holiday - or "Honeymoon" as we are calling it. Well, it is.
Aww...those cute little roads - and those silly, silly men.
Here are some of my favourites from this year's offerings so far.
"Get away from the fridge!" ordered Nicky.
"It’s not that I want to be picky,
I'm really quite sweet,
But next time you eat
I'll kill you - now hand me my biccy!"
Dear Laura continues to rile
As she spits out her venom and bile,
But what most distresses
Is that she possesses
Two faces - and both of 'em vile.
And so our Big Brother begins
First entry is a set of pink twins
We're all seeing double
Lets hope they cause trouble
With their screeching and constant sweet grins
So here I am, back where I belong - but my heart is still in Tiree. The only thing I have been able to think of since my return is when I might go back there.
We were blessed with extremely good weather, but I believe thee island would retain its magic, even if the weather was dreadful. I find myself wanting to witness one of those fantastic storms I've heard about, or go out when the wind is so fierce it is all but impossible to make headway.
It used to blow like that on the foothills of the Pennines in Yorkshire where I grew up. Coming home from school it was possible for me to lean into the wind and be fully supported - like lying on a really soft couch - did you ever do that?
I digress. I'm plotting an early return with TL to enjoy the island at a more leisurely pace this time. It's all but impossible to find accommodation at such short notice, but we're giving it our best shot.
My greatest regret was that TL was not there with me to enjoy the beauty. Tiree offers the kind of relaxing chill-out break that I do believe she would enjoy very much.
So, it's fingers crossed that we can book everything and get out there at the end of July.
I can only apologise for the out of tune playing. I don't think Jason had tuned his guitar properly.
I'm also sorry that I'm so fat, this will be corrected shortly.
I saw this scene today and took 14 pictures of it and made some software stick them all together.
I implore you to click on the image to see a larger and far more smashing version. This island of Tiree is truly beautiful, and a little bit magical. It has been a privilege to be here and meet two very lovely people in Colin and Sue. Waxing lyrical? You bet I am.
Jason and myself are on our way to Tiree to do some photography for a web site. Just nearing Oban we encountered a sudden burst of extreme beauty. It was the end of an enjoyable but tiring day, and we slept soundly in our little single beds (NOT pushed together).
No time for breakfast - straight down to the ferryport at 6.30am...
