It was an early start and a hasty drive up to the North East in order to get TL to the school in time for her interview at 10am.
We made it, thanks only to some very helpful directions from Tim. I drove up to our increasingly beloved NBTS to have a look at the ocean, and maybe to wistfully dwell on a few things. It really does look pretty. Maybe I am biased.
Once the interview was over, we took a look at the Metro Centre, somewhere I had not been for a very long while. Shopping in big places like this is not really high on the list fir either myself or TL, so we didn't spend long there. We had a tasty lunch at Chiquito's, including the chicken and bacon salad long hoped for, but my highlight was the cup of coffee we had sometime later. Either I was incredibly thirsty, or that was one wonderful cup of coffee.
I was incredibly thirsty.
As we were driving down to stay at my father's house for the night we got the dreaded call. Another job interviewed for and not obtained. It hit hard - and came after a series of let-downs and disappointments. I felt for TL, who always gives it everything only to be knocked back. She deserves so much better.
Back in Durham in the “House of Bear” (no explanation offered or required) we relaxed and enjoyed a little World Cup football (well, I kinda half enjoyed it and TL endured/read a book). Later on it was the Big Brother eviction show - the special one where the second house was filled full of fresh and satisfyingly gormless victims.
We enjoyed. We ate a sandwich. We slept.
Thus ended the first day.
