Oh my. Huddersfield can look so lovely.
It's one extreme to the other, or so it seems. From Huddersfield, vertically in the middle of England, to NBTS right on the coast. It's been good to see the seasons change here, from Winter to Spring and - dare I say it - Summer.
This town is not without its charms, nestling in a little indentation on he side of the Pennines, and holding so many of the memories that I have of childhood and growing up. It's impossible for me not to be slightly moved by the place. So I am.
It's been a real joy driving down the country lanes and seeing all the lush pasture, taking in the dramatic hills and eating the delightful local Persian food. It'll be nice to have reasons still to return here.
Broadly related to this topic is the lady pictured here. She is, of course, Corinne Bailey Rae. Her eponymous first album is quite the most delicious music I have heard in some while. Her voice is both smooth and soulful, whilst retaining a fresh-faced innocence the many will envy.
I had assumed her to be some young American thing, already with her breeches stuffed full of dollars. Imagine my surprise when she popped up on our “Look North” local news programme. It turns out that she is from Leeds - just a hop, skip and jump away from here.
It was quite weird hearing her speaking in broad Yorkshire tones, knowing as I do how accomplished and slick she is as a singer. A bit like discovering that Justin Timberlake is actually from Blaydon.
If you fancy doing a nice to yourself, go buy her record. It'll make you smile.* [BUY IT HERE]
