Friday...
This is a picture of a dog. Look at it, it is small and fluffy and recumbent. It is a happy dog. It's name is Laddy, or maybe Laddi, I'm afraid I didn't think to ask him how he chose to spell his name. Desperately trying to get in on the act are Ian and Rebecca, our charming hosts for the evening.
Ah yes, without the flash, you have more of a flavour of the evening. It was warm, relaxing and extremely well supplied with grown-up pop. I remember it now, as a very quiet night, in which little of great consequence was said, but that it was said very well, and several times, and then we laughed about it.
Saturday Morning...
After a rather amazing breakfast of bacon, sausage, scrambled egg, tomato and fried bread (no mushrooms cooked in butter) - cooked for me by Jason himself, the strange sight of Jason could be seen sanding his kitchen table. No-one was more surprised than me, as Ian D-W was actually doing it. Still, chance for a photo, and I remain impressed that he was able to do this thing so soon after a breakfast of technically gargantuan proportions. I have chosen not to breakfast blog this breakfast because I forgot to photograph it. This is a mistake I will not ever make again.
Saturday Evening...
After setting up for the Brenda Sokell gig, that Jason was playing drums for and for which I was twiddling the PA knobs, we took the chance to sneak into McDonalds - a first time experience for me. Though an avid drive-through user (Mc-Drive - eugh!) - I truly love their coffees - I had never been into a McDonalds “restaurant” to sit down for a meal before. Despite them getting the order wrong and me spilling Jason's milk shake all over the floor, it was a ncie enough repast. Sweet Chilli Chicken Deli Sandwich for both of us.
On the way out, I saw this BT payphone with internet capabilities, suffering from the Windows XP blue screen of death. Oh my, when will they learn not to use Windows for things that actually matter?
Then on to the gig - I thought the band played really well, but since it was the first time I had heard them, I was not in much of a position to judge whether they were in good form or not. I mean, they might be normally even more amazing. Hard to tell.
Both Tony (Bass) and Jason (Drums) also play in Soul Doubt, so it was good to see them in a very different role. Jason is a dab hand at all that brushes malarky. Sweet.
Here's the lady herself, crooning to the assembled masses - and there were quite a few of them. For me it was a great night. I enjoyed doing PA again, despite a few little gaffs, and I enjoyed hearing a good dose of Jazz standards. It did my heart good, and I left feeling great, if a little tired.
My final memory of Saturday is watching the clock tick past midnight. I was up mixing music till 3am Sunday.
Sunday...
I have no pictures for Sunday, but it was a momentous day for me, and one filled with mixed emotions and increasing weariness. Playing piano for the first time anywhere is always stressful, and so it was at Crossroads church on Sunday morning. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the experience, and it's one I would openly seek to repeat at some point.
The rest of the day, well, was interesting. Mainly because of my now extreme tiredness. Coming home to repair a computer and try and help with the ongoing house repairs and tarting up ready for sale was quite an effort, made more pleasant by the fact that Jac was here helping also. She did some amazing things, many of them involving painting.
How I stayed awake long enough to do a few office jobs and chat a while, I'll never know. Sleep beckoned.
I followed.

PS This is starting to sound worryingly like a diary. I always promised never to write a diary here. Hmmmmm...
It's NOT a diary Andy - it's a thought journal, filled with your personal reflections and reactions to what must seem like a life to many of us. Just in case a rut is being stuck to though, better do something off-beat or creative with your next post, like a poem, review, rant or brainwee.
