It was a bit of a non-visit really. Lots of waiting around, only to be told stuff I pretty much knew already.
Over the last year or so, there has been some concern that I am diabetic - well, slightly. Fortunately for me, test results don't really bear this out. We have now agreed to an uneasy stand-off where I promise to be careful with what I eat, and they promise to leave me alone. On Monday I got my yearly check-up results back, showing me pretty much on the normal scale. The nurse said that she knew plenty of non-diabetics with worse stats than me. My cholesterol is low and my blood pressure is normal - much to my relief. My blood sugar was pretty low as well. So, all in all, a satisfactory report.
In the key area of helping my bad leg to heal, predictably no progress or advice. Most annoying. They just tell em to stick with the programme and hope for the best. I get the feeling that they are a lot happier treading the well-worn path of diabetes than actually treating my condition.
So, my specialist will see me in three months time, and we'll do it all again, complete with much tutting and sighing.
All in all, I remain convinced that I have the wrong disease, and that, as such, I am an annoyance. I really should learn to suffer from something a little more hospital-friendly.
Most frustrating - why don't you just tow the line and suffer from something they can categorise - very insensitive of you, naughty man.
