Looking back on the filming at The Sage, I feel a bit like a sort of licensed voyeur. I was there, but not there. There to observe, but not there in any kind of creative capacity.
This was quite frustrating, as I found myself wanting to join in, or at least grab some one-on-one time with one of the excellent Steinway Grand Pianos which abound throughout the complex.
I heard and 11 year old play Bohemian Rhapsody all the way through on the piano, saw a child sing an operatic aria - and get away with it - I heard young people's take on the story of “cossi fan tutti” , and saw what the story looks like through a north-eastern eye. Fascinating.
Also there to be observed was the subtle interplay between creative people and commercial funding bodies - each with their own agenda. Maybe better not to say anything more there.
So now all I have to do, is edit the three hours or more of footage I took, into about 16 minutes of actual material.
Sigh.
No good sighing - I can tell you had a great time and that it inspired you - and I am glad for people like you who have a secure handle on things - creative and commercial - so grounded... gives me faith in the human race somehow. x
