So, there we were, back in the now legendary Arya restaurant in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. TL, Fiona and myself. Nice. Very nice. Fiona came down to help me do some accounts and we repaid her with a trip to this most wonderful place.
See me here, adding salt to Pomegranate juice, on the instructions of Jose, our host. Click on the picture to see the video of what happened next. According to Jose, this is the way, in his country, they take the fruit - with salt, “to get the blood pressure up”.
Certainly worked on me - or it might have been all the amazing amazing AMAZING BREAD!
To start with, we had garlic bread - which was great, but the garlic was very strong. What we wanted was that naan bread, but just with finest butter on it, fresh from the oven. We got our wish, and proceeded to literally gorge ourselves on the best bread and butter I have ever tasted. It was beyond sublime. We even offered Jose some, because he had not had the bread that way before. I think he liked it. If you go to Arya - and I strongly advise that you do - be sure to ask for bread with just butter, and prepare yourself for something rather special.
On with the photos:
Awesome bread - like being in heaven, and the starter I failed to capture last time. The two...erm...parcels at the top are vine leaves with a ricey mixture inside.

The plate of kebabs as before. All of them are beautiful and tender, as well as full of flavour. Also, TL's DIZI was “built” for us at the table. Click HERE to view the movie.
The lamb tasted like neck chops and there were a few bones to prove it, but the taste was very good indeed - and I particularly liked the sauce. If I had had any more hunger left, I would have sampled more, but we'd pigged out on bread. (Ahhhh........the bread.)

Left to right: Coleslaw - Marinated vegetables - Herb pickled vegetables and sour berry rice.
The sour berry rice is quite a big taste - those berries sure are sour, but not unpleasant in the least. Well worth a try.
It's a simple little pistachio chew, originating from somewhere in the middle east. It tastes like a cross between Turkish delight and nougat. How much harm can it do?

No real harm I suppose, in the great scheme of things - but these pictures are priceless.

To round it all off - a nice pot of Persian tea and a completely smashing picture of Jose - our charming host - and his utterly adorable daughter.
One thing we noted: On finishing our meal, we had (frankly) overeaten to quite a high degree. Nevertheless, having gone upstairs for a “hubbly-bubbly” smoke and reclined on the couches provided, we felt very quickly better. Yet another little bit of Arya magic.
So ends another night at Arya. Every time there is wonderful and our respect grows all the time for the hard working, skilful and friendly staff who make it the success it is. Whatever you do - don't live your whole life without experiencing this, it's a bit special.

So folks .... all you have to do is to drive over to Kirkheaton, offer us a little bit of anything vaguely labelled help and we will be only too delighted to reward you with a trip to Arya. ;-)

Aaron - Try this list too - plenty of Persian restaurants there, and the Iraqi and Iranian people are so friendly and hospitable that I would lay money that you'll find an absolute belter amaongst them - probably several.
